I remember a great suggestion as a runner several years. Someone asked a running expert how they can avoid giving up when they "hit the wall" during a marathon. It was suggested that they implant in their mind why they are running the race. That way when the body wants to quit, the mind can say that there was a previous reason to endure this current pain. It was mind over matter.
